  1. All those years and we never did get to meet face to face for a Many thanks Hodgey, your input will be sorely missed. Best of luck to you and your family. Cheers Ken
  2. Definitely not a PJ eggcase. I too am very interested in what the museum has to say.
  3. good ramp. Bad bar, although I haven't seen it since it has been opened for a while. It used to be notorious.
  4. G'day Hodgey, As you know we left after two weeks late in Jan, and had a great holiday. More than enough fish to keep me happy. I was talking with one of the Oyster Farmers who told me - "We'll get a flood come next month. Won't be pretty around here" Sometimes I reckon the council should listen to these old timers who have lived in the area for ever, and earn their living by being in tune with nature. PS - I was flicking small sps around the weedbanks to the SE of the cardinal mark, and had a nice jewie scoot past the boat. Only got a quick glimpse, but it was a bit bigger than a schoolie. I hope there is some follow up rain to keep the entrance open. Cheers Ken
  5. Not quite true. My spotters come with prescription spotters lenses in the bronze penetrator photochromatic. Expensive, but well worth it. If you were to pick spotters frames and have the optometrist add the lenses, (rather than Spotters p/l) then you would be wasting a lot of money.
  6. Hank Newman is a sportsfishing Icon. He was an original member of ANSA and ran the fishing section of an old hardware chain, Nock and Kirbys, (was that Joe the Gadgetmans store?). He had his own range of equipment - harnesses, rods, gimbals etc. All very high quality that were sold from his shop in George st from memory. You could buy his stuff from other shops too. The man was a legend, and I remember talking to him as a young bloke. He was very easy to talk to and was happy to answer all my questions.
  7. yep - Sydney Harbour. They also get them in Cairns and South Africa where they use them a mackeral baits. A very mysterious fish.
  8. I resemble that joke ...
  9. The body changes to a grey-green colour after death.
  10. seeing it was 50 odd years ago, it may even be a Bluefish (Girella cyanea). Now a very rare capture on the east coast, still caught in numbers at LHI. Bluefish I should also mention that we caught a bluefish off the stones at Batemans in the early '70s, so Dalmeny isn't that far away.
  11. Nice couple of sessions. How is the entrance at the moment?

    The Budget

Mick - no doubt it is a populist budget. Too bad they didn't have the testicular fortitude to pour some real dollars from the surplus into health and transport infrastructure, and real tax reform. Many people will see this as a break even budget - what they save in tax goes on the mortgage and petrol. The superannuation reform at this point looks pretty good, but I haven't seen the detail. Don't get me started on the IR reforms. Yes there was need of reform, but how far did the pendulum need to swing? Ken
  13. No solvent necessary apooh. Take a razor blade / stanley knife, and strip the epoxy away from the guide feet (ie use the feet of the guide to protect the blank from the blade). You will then be able to peel off the rest of the epoxy with your fingernails. A very light rub with fine steel wool usually removes the dregs. You can run a blade along the blank but be very careful not to nick the blank, as this will produce a weak spot. You may need to slightly heat the tip to remove it (if it has been glued on). Don't overheat as this will wreck the blank. If heat doesn't work, you may need to file it off. Go slow! Most grips will come up like new with some soap and warm water. Cork sometimes need a rub with very fine grit sandpaper. Hope this helps Cheers Ken
  14. Good advice Iain. Have a read through the boating forum. This question has come up a few times, and there is a lotof good advice in those threads. Cheers Ken
  15. Now I understand why we haven't heard from you in a while! Cheers Ken

    Seasickness

If you use seasick tablets, take one the night before, and one in the morning. They do have a drowsy effect, which will help you sleep better - which helps the sickness! I think Gongfisho has it right as well, stick to tour normal routine in the morning, and lay off the booze the night before. Of the hundreds of times I have been out to sea in 5 metre boats, I have been sick 3 times. All in calm, oily seas, on hot days. It makes me wonder if there are 2 kinds of people, those who have been seasick, and those who are going to be seasick Cheers Ken
  17. Roe Sounds like a fishy name, I'm sure you'll egg your husband on

    Where Is....

Thanks Joe, That certainly brought back some memories. The bottle of "Speed" filler in the first photo reminds me of the first time I ever got high, I had filled about 20 rods in a confined room, sniffin fumes, came out to the shop to serve someone, and almost fell over! Cheers Ken
  21. Thanks Boys. Whitto - there is no doubt, it is "Use it or Lose it" with most things, but especially boats. Cheers Ken
  22. Having today and tomorrow off was a perfect opportunity to have a fish with the family. My youngest and I headed out today to spin up some flathead. Unfortunately someone invited Murphy along. The southerly had pretty much blown itself out, so we packed the boat, filled her up, and launched at Swallow Rock ramp. First problem - Orange cordial container split - soggy sambos, esky full of cordial etc etc. Then I managed to break a light on the trailer backing back into the car & trailer space. Motor started 2nd attempt, (as it did last week when I gave it it's regular run on the ears) and we motored off downstream. Motor Stopped. Sounds like a fuel problem. Motor won't restart. Auxillary won't start (did last week!). Put up the canopy and sailed back to the ramp. Sam threw plastics, but scored a donut. Boat on the trailer, and back home. Booked in late next week to be looked at. Tried it on a different fuel supply, but nothing ... Felt pretty disapponted, til my missus got home, and was telling me about a friend of ours who has an inflamed nerve in her brain. Constant blinding headaches, and no end in sight. Makes a busted outboard and tail light assembly seem pretty tame really ... Cheers Ken
  23. Like Boppa, I am unlikely to be on the water on a long weekend - way too many dangerous types. But just having scammed Tuesday and Wednesday off, I will be on the water at least one of those days. Cheers Ken
  24. Brilliant ABA. Well done - Many thanks from all of here that enjoy the site. Cheers Ken
