Bass Versus Bull Shark

Here's a link to a fishing story I recently found in the Macleay Argus (Kempsey): http://kempsey.yourguide.com.au/news/local...ch/1422950.aspx

The article calls the fish a Perch but that's a common name for the Australian Bass up there.

I'm not sure if this incident happened above or below the rapids but Bull Sharks have been seen many times in freshwater above the rapids on the Macleay River.

I've heard they go up into the river because it rids them of a lice they get in their gills. The lice survives in salt water but fresh water kills them.

Not sure how accurate that is, i've only been told but maybe because of the rain a lot of them are coming up the rivers a fair way.

the wife had a similar experience out one evening early January this year in cowan creek up towards akuna Bay.

She hooked a small snapper, but then felt alot of weight, screamed and passed the rod to me. I took it and thought, what was the fuss.......brought the fish to see it was half a fish. By looking at the size of the remaining head and body, i would have put the snapper a around 25cms, and there was only about 3cm left of the body after the head......

No more swimming at that spot......

Anyone have ideas what could have taken the chunk of the snapper ?????

it was fairly well rounded, about 10cm radius......

Taps.
