0 Captain Spanner
Without looking it up my guess would be an estuary catfish and i think they are meant to be able to give you a pretty nasty sting with their spines.

0 jewgaffer
Hi Dennisvr good fishing mate new species... I am surprised that genetic freak let a prawn catch it, I would have thought the only bait that would catch that thing would be a balloon full of kitty litter.. 0 althasaur
The Estuary Catfish has a large flattened head and a body that tapers to a pointed tail. The dorsal, caudal and anal fins are continuous. The dorsal and pectoral fins each have an embedded, serrated spine. These spines are poisonous. The species has a relatively small mouth that is surrounded by four pairs of barbels. A fifth pair of barbels is present above the snout. The Estuary Catfish is mottled brown and yellow. 0 woodch0p
Not sure what species of catfish it is but I caught one when I was fishing whale beach off the northern rocks on a prawn also. Was a beast around 2 1/2 foot long! I wasn't putting my hand anywhere near it, so I cut the leader and pushed it back in the water using my net.
