I need to wire up running lights, sounder anchor lights and bilige pump. I was just wonder how I could find out if my motor has a charging system. ChrisS Posted June 4, 2010 Share Posted June 4, 2010 Look for a red and black wire that doesn't seem to go anywhere, I know with mine it comes out just under the pull start (2001 Mariner 30hp) If you have no luck do what the other guys said and contact your nearest Mercury specialist. a boat Posted June 7, 2010 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Hi, there are three 40HP Mercs of that age, one is a 2 cylinder and the others are 3 cylinders with one being a Seapro engine. None of them of come STD with battery charging if a rope start engine. The kits are about $120 depending on what you have.
