mt0311
Hi, was looking at getting a Shimano Shorespin 9' rod - just wondering what's a good reel to match it (budget say $100 to $150 in the shimano / daiwa range)? I've got a Stradic 8000 and an Daiwa Emcast Sport 4500 at the moment? Would these reels be ok for this rod? Looking at using the outfit with 15-20lb braid to toss lures. All feedback and recommendations would be appreciated - thanks. Edited May 31, 2010 by baitfish
slinkymalinky
G'day Baitfish, I think both those reels might be a bit big and heavy. The Shore Spin is a beautiful, lightweight stick rated at around 6-10kg from memory. I'd personally be looking at a 4000 size Shimano or 3000 size Daiwa... maybe a Stradic or a TD Tierra or similar. Both reels would suit 15 - 20lb braid really well. They'll hold a heap of line in that breaking strain and cast a mile as well as being comfortable to be casting with all day. As an extra, they're small enough so you could load a 2nd spool with maybe 10lb braid for tossing really small metals a mile, at frigates or salmon when they're picky. Cheers, Slinky
stylo
4k (Shimano) feels a bit small on this rod but does the job. 5k should be perfect !
