Braid And Leatherjackets

Recently did a jigging trip using a number of coloured braids. Multi, red, yellow and blue. As soon as the yellow was in and down it constantly was bitten off. The multi was taken within three jigs of the rod, the blue was just as bad. Only seemed the red outlasted them all, all up lost 13 jigs for 16 kings. Your thoughts on braid colour and jackets?

According to underwater photographers and scuba divers, red is one of the first colours of the spectrum to disappear underwater.

Perhaps this is the reason why the red braid outlasted all the other colours. The jackets couldnt see it. I might try red the next time i spool up my reel, which most likely will be soon since the bloody jackets have already snipped off almost 1/4 of my spool.

thanks for your thoughts. Dangas, i am aware of the spectrum thoughts, and yes red seems to outlast the others 90% of the time. Hamuwaja interested in trying the black although it is hard to come buy i think due to only 1 company making it? From what i understand it is the tiny air bubbles that the jackets attack from both line and terminal tackle sinking and causing if you like airation.

red braid doesn't actually disapear under the water it just turns grey and blends in with it. any dark coloured braid does the same under water. I find the spiderwire moss green rarely gets bitten of. Also try not to touch your braid when youv'e been handling baits because the jackets can smell it and go for it.
