Day's Fishin
Hi Raiders, can anyone shed some light on the rules for the use of a VHF radio? On the Maritime site it states that you need a marine radio operators VHF certificate of proficiency (MROVCP) to use one. On the next paragraph it states that VHF radios are now covered by a class licence so marine radio uses do not need to obtain or pay for a separate licence?????? cat-as-trophy
Hi Jeff Minimum operating requirements for a VHF radio: Restricted Radiotelephone Operators Certificate of Proficiency, or 3rd Class Commercial operators Certificate of Proficiency, or Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency, or Marine Radio Operators VHF Certificate of Proficiency. From time to time Fishraider offers its members the chance to obtain either an MROCP or an MROVCP Licence. It is well worth the money, and will also save you in fines etc, if you operate without the licence. Hope this helps Cheers Cath

Day's Fishin
Thanks for that Cath, I guess I will have to go and get one and save the fine. I don't see why we have to pay for a licence to operate a safety device? Regards Jeff

Regards Jeff This type of training not only shows you how to use your radio,BUT IT MAY JUST SHOW YOU WHAT TO DO IN A REAL EMERGENCY TOO SAVE LIVES !!!! Both Donna and myself have completed the course as have many other raiders and we dont even have a VHF radio, but if we needed to assist someone in distress we would be more than capable. Regards Swordfisherman. P.S This is a one off course and your license is for LIFE!!!!

I have been using mine for years, do it right, but now have to go get a liscence.. i dont mind, but just think that it should be covered somewhere between my boat liscence fees, and fishing liscence fees.
