cut_loose
Hey guys Looking at a 4.55 meter runabout, it has a 80hp Yamaha 4 stroke on the back, do you think this is overpowered ? Cheers
tuffy
Yep, my 4.55 ally is rated to max 60hp. May be different for glass boats. Tuffy

kingfish89
80 hp is too much for 4.5 m tinny, its 4 stroke too so its probably heavy as well Edited November 26, 2010 by kingfish89

Josh88
also i would check with the insurance company before u buy it Yeh I think it voids the insurance if you've got higher than the max rated HP, I know with our boat we have a 75 Optimax on it and were looking at putting a 90 on it as the 75, 90 and 115hp all weigh the same which was under the max transom weight but the dealer said it would void the warranty and insurance if something went wrong. a boat
Hi, yes that engine is overpowered and over weight for a 4.55M tinny. You will not get insurance so if the price is right and you like the boat buy it and trade the engine in on a more suitable outboard-or just find another boat. Cheers, Huey. No eye deer
Go for it!! You should see the fellas here on T.I . 4mt boats with 40's and 4.5s with 60s!! If a boat could wheelstand, they would. The front comes down only when the prop loses traction. Young fellas of course:) Insurance FWAAWW!! ( I have a 40 on my 4.45. It does 23 Knots Flat out:) ) Mark
Zdenk01
Hi Josh88, I read somewhere that upgrading from 75 to 90 is only a computer recalibration. Im not 100% sure if this for optimax or e-tec check with Huey he may be able to confirm this. zed.
