Singapore Report

For those who have been reading Andrew's post , "Anyone buying gear in asia soon" I have just returned from Singapore & thought Fishraiders may be intrested in the tackle sceen.

There are in excess of 20 tackle stores in Singapore , 7 of which are in a 100mt stretch on Beach Rd, interesting that they are basically next door to each other.

Like most stores in Singapore they don't open until 10.00 - 10.30am but do stay open late.

Pricing was OK but not what I would call super cheap so don't expect to save a fortune , in particular with reels which generally were similiar in pricing to local stores.

My main interest was to purchase some braided line & shopping around purchased 150mt of 20lb Tuf line for $16.00 & 200mt of 16lb Dynabraid for $18.00.

I also visited 4 stores at Changi Village. The village is located on the western tip of the island & as such a $20.00 cab fare each way from the city (hotel).

Prices were more expensive than Beach Rd so save yourselves the $40.00

hi geoff,

which shops did u get ur braid from?? My guess would be u got the tuf line from sabre or joe's tackle. Yeah the thing abt sg tackle shops is they are all close to each other. The good thing abt it is it creates lower pricing for singaporeans. The fishing market isn't like here where there are more fishos than tackle shops. As for prices of tackle, i am surprised that u found them on par with tackle sold here. maybe i dun know any gd tackle stores here which gives me gd discounts. I do get significantly gd prices when i go back to singapore. The best deals to me would be the price of fireline in sg with the price almost half of what we pay here.

Darryl Your spot on , the Tuf line came from Sabre , For interest the Dynabraid from Five Spot.

In respect to general pricing , the reels I looked at were $65.00 to $80.00 for spinning reels , brands I have never heard of so it was more of an overall impression rather than comparing specificate apples with apples.

I did see a Penn 4/0 Senator & if I recall correctly it was around $150.00

General items like hooks , sinkers etc were cheaper but unless your buying heaps , hardly worth a mention.

Also picked up two pkts of Storm Shad luers for $4.00 / pkt
