dean
The day started early and the drive over the mountains was uneventful. Lake Lyell looked good glowing in the morning sun, but it was the Fish river we would be spending the day on. Down at the river things started slowly and we fished a lot of good water before my dad landed the first fish a small brown. A few runs later we had a double hook up, a rainbow for me and a brown for my dad. As the day warmed the fishing improved and we landed a mixture of rainbows and nice browns. After a quick lunch break at one of the bigger pools we fished our way back to the car with similar results. Best fish of the trip. Final fish for the day, nice brown. The rivers holding up well at the moment with good flow and plenty of fish. Surprisingly we only spotted one snake, I was happy about that. paul.kenny
Looks like a fantastic day and well done on the great fish Dean. It would have been all the much better by sharing the day with your old man.
Spearer1
Love your work Dean. Good to see some father - son bonding with the trout too. I'm trying to get my old man out there for some action but he is too "busy" while another weekend passes by. What size reel and rod are you using? I've been using a 2500 Daiwa spin reel with 2-4kg rod but am thinking of getting a smaller lighter combo. Any recommendations? Good report and photography too. Well done. andrew399
nice fish! Out of interest, have you ever fished any of the streams up around Ophir or anywhere near Orange?
Centrepin
That is a great report. Looks like you had a wondeful day with your Dad. Geoff
irongustavius
Thanks for the report Dean. Dicko - I've fished a fair bit around Orange, but not around Ophir. Most creeks hold redfin and carp, but pretty much all of them have the potential for trout. Whether or not you catch them is another story. dean
Thanks for the replies. Adam, I use a similar outfit 2500 diawa luvias and 1-3kg rod, It's well balanced, light and doubles as my bream/bass rod. I'm not a fan of smaller reels but that's just me. Dicko, I've never fished the area, a mate wants to camp out at Ophir reserve on Lewis pond creek soon, not sure if there are any fish though. Also wouldn't mind fishing the Maquarie at Dixons long point for natives. Cheers, Dean
cc118
Great report Dean, I'll have to take you out to one of my secret spots. But you'll have to leave your spin gear at home. Regards Caddis
luderick -angler
Caddis I'm sure once he sees the magic that is the NS5 he'll never pick up a spin rod again!!!!! Already looking forward to our next trip, BTW I think if this rain keeps up the Wollondilly may fire this year fingers crossed plus the 15000 stocked into Pejar is good news! andrew399
thanks dean and irong. Iv fished there a couple of times with small squidgy wrigglers but never got anything. Iv heard the odd report of redfin being caught and years ago heard of trout but not for ages. Ophir reserve is a beautiful area and it looks like there is so much potential, pristine waters that are rarely fished and a heap of deep pools... I only ever head up that way when im visiting my grandparents who live out that way, one of these days im really going to give it a proper go.
