Sydney Harbour yesterday

Here goes for my first post.

We put the boat in at Roseville and went straight to Balmoral to collect some livies. We nailed a great range of large and small Yakkas and left enough room in the live bait tank for some squid. Unfortunatly the swell around middle head was bigger than we would have liked and made squidding a difficult task so we decided to not waste any more time and went in search of some action.... not a bird or splash to be seen anywhere east of the bridge. We slow trawled the livies around north and south heads without any luck braving the swell and finally gave up, moving into wedding cake for some easier target species.

First bait down was nailed by a legal Snapper, then a massive Tarwhine an Octopus and some Trevally and Bream. I had a live bait out untouched for the first 30 mins so I checked it, swapped it for a smaller one and cast it out. Instantly I hooked up to a small King fish. Next livey out and another rat king, and finally a legal King. It all went quiet after that so we went back to the heads and tried livies, one on the surface one mid water and one on the bottom. We waited for an hour or so then noticed some bait moving through on the sounder and right on cue my livey started to freak out. At first I felt the weight and got a few cranks on the reel, then a few more then my Stella screamed! I managed to get the fish mid water quickly but another run down and I felt the line rubbing on the rocks below. I gave the fish a little slack, not much, but enough for it to swim away from the reef and then I really gave it to it. A minute later and a really nice King came to the surface. We fished for another hour without any other action but were pretty happy with the result on a day that wasn't perfect but gave us a great feed from inside the harbour and a fat Sydney king..

Are you the guys who rented the aluminium boat from Boab? If so, I was the guy fishing on the wharf at Balmoral when you were getting your livies. Glad to see they worked for you - that's a nice Kingie.
