Benzeenees
Hi All. I have a Yamaha f60c 4 stroke which runs perfectly. The last service a year ago cost me over $500 so I was considering doing it myself. Does anyone do their own and what are the traps for someone doing it for the first time? I have downloaded the manual so I know exactly what has to be done. Edited June 21, 2012 by Benzeenees
dunc333
your manual should tell you what tools needed for the job,you will need a oil filter tool to fit that size filter and everything else if your handy you should have lying around is it carby or efi ? are you doing a impellor change? and is it out of warranty? Benzeenees
The engine is 5 years old so no warranty. The impeller is not due for a change. The fuel system is efi.

Geoff
I was considering doing it myself. Does anyone do their own and what are the traps for someone doing it for the first time? Benzeenees
that's great. My problem - which you won't have - is removing the engine oil. Apparently you need some sort of gadget to suck it out.
Testlab
Why do you need a gadget? Undo the sump plug and let it drain. Dead simple as described in the owners manual. http://www.reelschematic.com/schematics/Yamaha/2004/F50HP.pdf

Dead simple as described in the owners manual. http://www.reelschematic.com/schematics/Yamaha/2004/F50HP.pdf I don't seem to be able to download that file. The manual I downloaded from Yamaha says to use an oil changer. As the boat is 150 km away I can't check if there is a drain plug.
Testlab
This one is from the Yamaha Australia website. It says the same as the other.... The drain plug is at the rear, bottom of the engine casing and is easily accessible. http://www.yamahaownershandbook.com.au/lib/download.php?f=6C1-28199-22.pdf I haven't changed the oil in a mid size yammie but it looks similar to others I have done. Benzeenees
Thanks for that - the copy I downloaded turned out to be the 2009 version. As my engine is a 2007 model, the manual you provided (2006 version) is probably the relevent one.
