al_bundy Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Hi everyone, I hit TCD on Wednesday 29th Sep. After reading the weather reports over the past two weeks I decided that this was the day. I got to the gates round 1 in the afternoon and made my way round the back of the western side of the dam. I couldn’t find too many fishable spots till I got right round where the old quarry is. I started fishing just after 2pm, first hour I didn’t get any hits or follows, I moved further up a little and on the first cast I hooked onto a nice rainbow. He put up a decent fight, took a bit of line off me and after a few minutes I managed to get him to the bank, a fat solid Jack with really nice markings. I moved a little further up the bank and on the next cast something hit my lure like a freight train, I couldn’t believe how much line was being taken. I remember thinking “this must be huge” and just then it spat the hook. Shame, would have been a PB for sure. For the next hour or so it was pretty quiet and uneventful. I started to walk back to the car and thought I would try out this spot that I noticed on the way in. Second cast at said spot and I was on, this fish also seemed very heavy and was doing a lot more than the jack I had caught earlier. By the way the fish was fighting I picked it for a hen. I eventually got her to shore, she gave a really good account of herself. So I managed a very decent pair for the day, I did not weigh or measure the fish they were both returned to fight another day. I would estimate that they were both over 60cm in length. It turned out to be a very decent afternoon, I’m thinking of hitting Lyell next. The back end of that damn is also pretty good at the moment. Cheers, hope you enjoy the photos. Al
