Hi,

i always use a spinning reel (okuma inspira20)

i would like to know what are the advantages/disadvantages of using a baitcaster reel?

I fish 95% from land, throwing around plastics and other lures, and the occasional bait while fishing at night.

might fish from boat once every 3 months when i hire one out at botany bay.

let me know your opinions please.

thanks fishos

Gday,

From my own experience, casting a lure using a baitcaster will give you more accuracy you can control where you want the lure to land by adjusting the pressure you apply on the spool. However if you're using extra light jig-heads, baitcaster might give you more headache than joy in this case spinning reel will be the weapon of choice.

Disadvantages of using baitcaster reels is the ocassional "bird's nest" you get when casting. However with more practise you can reduce the chances of getting the "birds nest"

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Mario
