noelguyau Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Hey, Just wanted to get your thoughts on what line class to put on this reel......Should I go a good 80lb braid and get poss 500-600m cap...or just go all out and put 1000m of 50lb braid all round. Some feedback and know how would be appreciated. Noel.
Kingfish87su Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Ive never come across any tiagras with braid.. If you're using it for trolling I'd put 24kg mono on it Cheers Su
Game spin Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 They are built for using mono buddy 50 lb is what most people use, if you were to use braid you would probably get 2-3kms on it. Let us know how you go with the braid I've never heard if it before but anything is possible.
noelguyau Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah, I was going to use it for trolling, I have always used mono in the past...but am interested to hear most are still using mono...Food for thought i guess. Unless someone can give me a good reason not to (ie: you need the stretch of mono, color of the braid will deter fish when trolling ect)I will give it a try.
Marcel Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 15kg mono tiagra 30. 24kg mono tiagra 50. 37kg mono tiagra 80 that's my 2 cents
Wrangler35 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I have used a 50LRS with braid before on a mates boat. Never had a dramas just used abit longer wind on. Not sure exactly how much was on the spool. Had 24kg on it Hope that helps
noelguyau Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Thanks mate, good point, I will use a longer wind on.

noelguyau Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 Yeah thats what I was thinking of doing as well 100m should ne enough I guess.
EdCain Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Note that the Shimano Tiagra 50WLRSA (as opposed to the standard 50WA), has a drag designed to fish 80lb line. This means that the drag profile will be more suited to 80lb tackle (it has the same/similar drag setup as the 80WA). My discussions with Welsey's tackle (http://www.wellsystackle.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=698), is that you should only get the LRS (Long Range Special), if you intend to fish 80lb. Sounds like that is what you are intending to do anyway. Cheers, Ed
