help required for 1976 85hp evinrude

Hi guys finally got the boat on the water butthe engine sputters and misses at idle any ideas of what causes this and it cuts out thanks in advance

HI Mate check out the coils first, you will need a multi meter and just compare all of them to each other, I cant remeber the specs but I had a dud one, when I replaced it never Idled better.

Havind said that, get the motor tuned by a profesional, it wil need sincronising, Timming, carby checked, all electronics checked and you wont look back

if it was running fine last time u used the engine drain the carburetors and drain all the fuel in your fuel hose that joins the fuel tank to the engine

check all 4 spark plugs and compare each look for any with a different color wet,dry,tan,black etc... u could be running on 3 cylinders

What happens when you give it some throttle , the same thing or does it run smoothly??

If smoothly , is it instantaneously or does it take 10 - 20 seconds to run correctly?

ok lets start from the basics, dont forget the compresion test if its running rough.

I have a rapaire manual with all specs needed,
