Bobwedge
G'day all, Went for a squid session in Botany Bay on the weekend and had a great seesion. Got 4 Cuttlefish, one was an absolute monster! Some nice green eyes as well. Hope for more days like this!

Keflapod
Mate, you seem to have caught every type of cephalopod known to man....... except one..... I wonder if nautilus take squid jigs.... Well done - that cuttlefish is a big one - love eating them... I don't know what a "Cthulhu's face" is though.... Jdanger has got me there... nbdshroom
Probably unlikely to catch nautilus on a jig since they are usually from very deep waters and they can't swim fast enough to catch a jig. They do seem to prefer chicken meat though. Edited April 17, 2013 by nbdshroom
Keflapod
Ah yes - all we need is to catch a fruit bat and attach it to the cuttlefish mantle and you have a Cthulhu. I wonder if fruit bats take squid jigs...

filthmonger
Good catch, what do you do with the cuttlefish? Any good to eat?
Bobwedge
These were caught just outside, only about 500m. The cuttlefish is great eating. The ink is added to your everyday red pasta sauce which then makes it go black and adds a nice flavour, then the cuttlefish is cut into small pieces and boiled in the the sauce. I only use the ink from cuttlefish though, not squid as the squid ink is not nice tasting and much thinner. Tip for your pasta sauces, let it cook for no less than 40mins on low heat anything less tastes acidic, 1 hour is perfect. This applies to all tomato based sauces not just the one made with the ink.
