The Incredible Hull
Hey Guys, I wanted to cut a hole in my aluminium boat to put in a rod holder. Any ideas on how I would do this? What tools do I need? Cheers, dave
Jewdreamer
The big green harware store has a wide range holesaws, just need an electric drill with an appropriate chuck size. Caution!!!!! Have a real good look beneath the location where you plan to cut the hole for wires, hoses, structural members and the hull! Make sure you cutting angle won't cause you a serious problem! Plumb
If your at the green store don't get cheep ones that look like this it will catch and stuff up, spend the money on a good quality one with a decent arbor like this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sanfly
Hi, If the rod holder is on a 30 degree angle, then the hole will have to be more like an oval shape. Get a piece of scrap ply wood or something and do a test hole first, that way you can see if the rod holder sits nicely in the hole. Then you can use it as a template. If you dont want to spend the money on a hole saw, just mark out the hole and drill a series of holes around the marked area and punch it out
Blood Knot
Remember to coat your screws with Sikaflex to help stop that galvanic corrosion. Blood Knot
