Sat night session

Went for a quick session on sat night with a few mates. It was a really quiet night with a few fish with a few surprises along the way. My mate got a mullet on plastic and my other mate got a blackfish on a grub. Then as we are about to leave my mate gets a Jew around the 70cm and I get hammered by something which by the looks of it was a small Jew but lost it halfway through the fight. Anyways that's fishing.

I was talking to my mate about getting into fishing with light gear. He told me that he had a combo for sale. A lox yoshi 1-3kg rod and a team Diawa fuego reel in the 1000A. Now loaded with 4lb braid for fun. For them both for the price of the rod. Has anyone used the Diawa before and if so what is it like? Any feed back is appreciated.

Mullet on a plastic??? I didn't think they went for plastics at all... At least I have never caught one on them and have thrown them through schools on more than one occasion.

Nice work on the little jewie too, I bet your mate was happy when that came out of the water. Also I have to add for your sake, it is better to have hooked and lost than never to have hooked at all hehe. Cliche I know but it is true.

Mate thats an awesome combo, you will be very happy with it.

As for mullet on plastics, ive seen them take z man grubz in water melon. I dont know why i think it may just be a reaction bite or something. I had one smash me when fishing for bream in a canal.

Nice jewy btw!

I had a 20cm bream on a lox 1>3 and the tip just snapped so I gave them the boot as I have never ever broken a rod or tip in 48yrs of fishing

I owned the exact same reel, it is the "American" Luvias, same parts, if something goes wrong with it, you can order the Ozzie luvias equivalent part.

The only difference is in the weight of the body, slightly lighter thanks to magnesium, as far as I'm concerned, that reel is even lighter than the CI4 series compare to their line capacity.

Anyway, good little machine, I kept it 4 years and ended up acting silly chasing drummers and bonies on light gear, no good ! One season has been fatal ! :P

You'll have great fun on light estuary species, the drag is the only crappy thing on that reel, as most of the drags were on that generation of daiwa.

That said, until 800 / 1 kg drag pressure, the thing is more than acceptable.

Have fun!
