Paikea
I have a particular fondness for photographing wading birds. Caught the following on a road trip to SA using a 300 MM Cannon Telephoto lens, After I got the bird I scanned the general area and was lucky enough to find the nest with some eggs in it. Two of my favourite pics. Cheers Paikea
stormy
Yeah, that's a white headed Stilt. I got these shots of a Red Capped Dotterel up at Cape Tribulation. Played the broken wing act to keep me from finding the egg.
Blackfish
On-Ya Paikea, things you come across fishing. The first one I always called them a Pied Stilt. See them up Iron Cove and the Parra.
Paikea
Its lovely to find that some other Raiders share my love of bird photography. Very rewarding. The broken wing shot is a classic. My other love are raptors, I have been trying to get some pics of two eagles that soar above my holiday place in Ulladulla and another who lives off the beach at Lennox Head. The latter will come to fish thrown on the sand but so far I have not been able to capture the moment when he snatches it off the sand. Hoping to get the shot when I go to Lennox Head for three weeks in January for the birth of my daughters second child. A magic place. stormy
Here's one I snapped last year. What is it, hint, Paikea?
Paikea
Come on Stormy, is this another one of your photo shopped efforts? It looks like a duck, has a tail like a cocker spaniel and feet like an Emu, it must be a Kiwi of some sort? A rail? OK, I give up, what is it? By the way, you only managed to get one egg, got you there! And how rare is the Pied Stilt?
stormy
White Headed stilt in your photo. Common. It is a Weka - NZ bird to go with your name.
