Botany Bay Mystery (Numb Ray)

G'day Raiders,

Was fishing the bay today which was pretty slow to say the least. Came across this weird creature which looks like a ray however has a jaw, no tail and sluggyish in its movement. Never seen anything like it before. Caught and released at towra Point. Would anybody have a clue what it is?

Many years ago. as kids, we used to chase prawns out off Bonna Point and when the tide got low enough, hunt flathead in the shallows where the sand met the weed. You would invariably stand on a numby ray and jump when you were shocked. It never stopped us having fun and was very funny when it happened to someone else.
