UnderFisher
They say you learn more from those trips you don't catch fish. Using this philosophy, I must be one of the most learned fishermen going around! Lol. Anyway, My last two trips have been pretty disappointing to say the least. I am a 'confidence' fisherman. I need some encouragement or a few bites or downs to keep me going otherwise I pull up stumps pretty early. There's only so many hours I can sit with 0 action. But In the spirit of sharing and trying to help myself and others, here are my two trips: Friday, Watsons Bay baths Target: Blackfish Never fished here before, but thought id give it a crack. Got some cabbage from the rocks on the way to Watsons, then hit the wharf. Fished about 2 hrs and had about 4 or 5 downs, but couldn't hook up. I was encouraged with the downs, at least they were there, but very inconsistent. Tried all different depths from 0.5m to almost 3m. Also burleyed lots too. Saturday, La Perouse Bare Island Target: tailor Was initially heading to my favorite eastern suburbs rock ledge, but when I got there and saw the high tide and 1.5 swell, I thought better of it. La perouse was rough too, but still fish able. Threw out a pilchard, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. The only good thing about not catching fish is that you don't use much bait. So I threw out a lot of burley, pillies and bread, but this didn't help. 3 other guys were spinning for pelagics, but they had no luck. Definitely fish there as some Asian fishos, who must have fished most of the night, left with a few. After 1.5hrs, I'd had enough. Tight lines raiders! Always next time :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rockfisherman
Don't be disheartened (especially after only 2 trips) That's why it's called fishing, not catching... Keep at it... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
TRIER
Gee's that could have been me writing that report. My last few weak attempts, also at Watsons Bay Wharf & the rocks at La Peruse, have resulted in Zilch. No doubt we'll be back & hopefully next time, BANG, we'll be on. Just got to land it now. rockfisherman
Am I the only one? When I'm fishing alone, after about 4 hours I turn into "THE ZOMBIE FISHERMAN" When in this state I can fish for 12 hours straight and the only reason I will stop is: a) I run out of bait and cannot source anything from the environment around me my wife is threatening to jump in the car and physically remove me c) some kind of external force is preventing me from fishing eg severe hail storm, hurricane or earthquake. Spykey
Mate, I hate fishing base island, la perouse. Been there like 3 time with nothing.. I think this place is over fished and too many divers doing spear fishing.. However beach fishing from congwong beach (nude beach) is not bad., I had luck with flatties there.. Alternatively When the fish are on you CANNOT leave the fish as its just too good! As i explain to my wife, i could be addicted to booze, drugs or gambling so fishing ain't so bad... And my booze addiction is only mild.

fragmeister
They say that best thing about forums is that it concentrates people with common interests who can relate to each other about common experiences. How true that is. I have a regular Saturday meal with very good friends and my family. We have a good feed, a few drinks and play board game and just shoot the breeze. Sometimes they will say " You look tired Jim... what you been up to? I say, I went to bed at 11:30 and got up at 2:30am to go fishing... The tide was right and I wanted to launch the boat and cruise down the Parra and into the harbour nice and easy , throw a few plastics at the various bridge pilons on the way and get some live bait and be ready for dawn. I fish my usual spots until the fish quieten down a little then I have an explore and try a new place here and there. Eventually I will realise I am hungry and eat a quick sambo ( which tastes fantastic even with the faint taste of fish) . By the time I start to get tired or even think about heading home its 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I seriously entertain waiting for dusk for another quick peak time session. I remember I have guests and head on back up the river during daylight hours . I get home, reverse the boat into the driveway, do the post tip boat maintenance and fish cleaning ( hopefully) bit, have a shower to freshen up, grab a beer and sit down to wait for the visitors. Its about 6.00PM and yep, I am tired but its a good kind of tired. Now the folks at Fishraider will get this and say " Yeah, sounds fair enough" but my long time friends and family will shake their heads and say " You're crazy" Thank god for the forums. Stick at it buddy. Use the depth of knowledge in the forums, and soon enough you will remember the good times that bring you back and catch you more fish. Cheers Jim Edited April 28, 2014 by fragmeister

Cheers Jim Amen mate, girlfriend keeps on at me about how I haven't had a day off in years or that I'm exhausted....I don't consider sitting around the house a day off! If I come home with aching shoulders a sore back and a numb arse from sitting in the yak all day or casting 60000 times I'm still more mentally refreshed than if i'd had a day sitting at home...I would get more anxious sitting at home THINKING about fishing...gotta love havin a community that understands! Its not hard work, its not too much effort...its medidtation for the fish lover Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
General Zod
I was on a drought for at least 6 months, actually I think I still am when I go spinning of the rocks. So don't give up. I think the more u go eventually the fish come to you. I remember the more I went fishing the fish would come then I stopped for a while and the drought hit hasn't stopped. Maybe I need to fish more like before. Anyway just keep at it they well come.
