quochuy
I went to Half Tide Rocks yesterday morning targeting breams. It was a cold morning but worth the effort. This is my first video about Iso fishing; I will try to get some blackies and pigs on video next time.Huy Edited July 12, 2014 by quochuy

quochuy
Thanks mate It's a Yong Sung Naiad 2-530. So it's size 2 with a length of 5.3m Both burley and bait was bread. The float was a 3B. The rig was 20lb float line, float stopper, float stopper bead, 3B float, bottom cushion stopper, swivel, 6lb FC leader, 3B splitshot and size 10 (small) hook. quochuy
I love fried bream with good mayonnaise (Best Foods Real Mayonnaise). But steamed is good too. In the pic below, on the left are steamed breams and in the middle are fried drummers. Huy Edited July 12, 2014 by quochuy

fisherman666
What does ISO mean please?
quochuy
Iso is from the terms Iso Tsuri which in Japanese literally means "rock fishing". It's a finesse rock fishing technique which uses a very long but thin and light weight fishing rod, a floating line, a dedicated float and accessories, a specialised fishing reel that has a lever brake (LBD) and uses smaller leader and hook for better presentation. I can't say too much in a comment so google for Iso Tsuri or Iso Fishing. Huy Edited July 12, 2014 by quochuy

LuckyFil
Great report and video. I often stay at Wagstaffe and occasionally walk around to half tide rocks but haven't fished there for years. You've inspired me to give it a go next time. I often fish with bread under a float for drummer although that spot may not get enough wash for drummer I might get a bream or two like the nice ones in your video! quochuy
Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Great report and video. I often fish with bread under a float for drummer although that spot may not get enough wash for drummer I might get a bream or two like the nice ones in your video! Phil Have you tried the Wagstaffe wharf? I was thinking of trying there one day but not sure how fishy it is. I'm not sure if that spot is good for drummer, it seems not deep enough but that was my first time there and at running out tide so I can't tell how it will be a different tide levels. But from other reports it is more popular for breams. Really liked that video! nice breams and over all entertainment/sound with it. gonna get my vids going. what camera were you using if you don't mind me asking? thats pretty much how i fish of the rocks bread berly, but i chuck in a touch of tuna oil. thats just me. iMovie really makes it easy and fun to edit videos, I'm just loving it :-D I used an iPhone 5 mounted on my chest using a Hitcase Pro that includes a wide angle lens which makes it great for fishing videos. I heard similar burley recipe or more complicated ones, but I personally like to keep it simple so I don't get confused or forget to bring this or that. So when I discovered that bread can be both burley and bait for various species that made me very happy :-D I've actually used bread for fishing when a teenager, but over 16 years of non-fishing (when I went to Europe for studies and ended up living there) I just forgot about it. The iPhone 5 is great as an action camera, but the only issue is when it runs out of battery, not only you can't record but no phone calls either... so I'm planning to get another cheap but good enough action camera (SJ1000 or Ion Air Pro) so I can keep at least 30% of the iPhone battery life. Sydneyfisher12
great work mate thats a nice video you made i'd be guessing you made it with a gopro the rod looks very much like a fly rod long and light although you can get heavy fly rods but looks like great fun on bream which do go hard on light line i would really love to give this fishing a go sometime soon cheers sydneyfisher12
quochuy
It was shot with a chest mounted iPhone 5. My rod is a medium duty one (relative to the range available for Iso rods) so it's a bit overkill for breams but still good fun. There are lighter Iso rods which makes it real fun fighting breams, I'll probably get one later as I'm getting more experienced. I'm not too familiar with fly fishing to compare but from what I saw and read there are similarities in terms of rod being light and letting the rod fight for you. The reel is much different, you set the drag to max when fighting breams and alike, let the rod do the fight and absorbs burst dives from the fish and when you feel the line might break you release the lever brake and the anti-reverse will disengage releasing the line. As the line is released the rod regains its original shape (straight) you then press the lever to engage the anti-reverse and carry on fighting the fish. As I'm using a medium duty rod and caught only relatively small fish I haven't yet used the lever brake to its best capacity. Planning to fight some drummers soon, that will then be useful but I still need to learn how to use it on the field and learn to recognise braking tension for different line ratings so I don't over-use the lever brake. Will need few bust off to get that skill... I started Iso fishing just over a month and really loving it. Huy
LuckyFil
Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Have you tried the Wagstaffe wharf? I was thinking of trying there one day but not sure how fishy it is. Huy Waggie wharf can be a busy spot especially in summer with lots of holiday fisher folk giving it a go because of its convenience, but at this time of year its much quieter. During the daylight hours you'll mainly get lots of small red bream (baby snapper), small black bream and jackets and an occasional flathead. Night time is better for bream and a few rare jewies. Very difficult to fish on the run-out tide as it races past. It can fish well for luderick if you use weed from a float. I've not done it myself but have seen quite a few caught off it recently. I need to improve my video skills so that I don't hide the fish when landing it, would make it more exciting, either will have to modify arms or camera position. They are popular in Japan, Korea and China. Made for rock fishing, the length allows easy steering of the fish off the rocks at your feet. My rod weighs 250 grams, very easy to work with, can hold it for hours no problem. Google "iso tsuri technique" Here is a picture of me with the rod so you can see the length: Huy Edited July 14, 2014 by quochuy
