  1. Thanks gents, I have been running with the small esky behind but have found it awkward getting the catch in (lost one in the motion) and also limited to a fish of about 50cm. Keeper net it is. Cheers guys
  2. Gents, New to yak fishing and need a tip. What do you do with your catch when you get it into the yak? If your 200m from shore and 5 mins into your session and catch one where do you put it? I had to paddle in to shore when I got my second one today. Was a 55cm flatty and carried on (as they do) once In the yak. Any advice would be appreciated.
  3. Raiders, Just looking for an upstream boat ramp in the Hawkesbury. I cam see one at a place called Marlow (near Spencer) Can anyone tell me what it's like as far as getting to it and is it decent enough to launch at? Cheers

  5. Raiders, Went for a quick flick at Ettalong tonight. Pumped for nippers but only managed 1 as I got to the nipper spot too late (I think I needed more water around and it was about 3/4 out...any tips for best time would be great), so I took some prawns for bait. Anyway... Got to the spot opposite half tide rocks and cast a lure (jackall transam) around for 10 mins then tried some prawns for zilch. As soon as I put the nipper on the hook I pulled in a nice 56cm flatty. I also noticed a group out guys (who were decked out with the right gear and looked like they know what they were doing) all turned up about 1 hour before the low tide change and they were also hooking up so I am assuming that's go time for that location.
  6. Yeah. I find a proper clean of the boat, eskies, rods, reels with hot soapy water takes me about an hour. If there are 2 of us it's much quicker. Take a mate.
  7. I like sgtbundys idea. I also think if you can invent the ultimate wheel bearing that dosent require annual replacement you will be a rich man.
  8. Stephand, I have had the same issue there with sweep and found that when that's occurring I don't drop the bait jig down as deep, In actual fact i sit it just below the surface and I have found doing that helps. Maybe the sweep sit below the yakkas I'm not sure. Just give it a try next time you have that issue
  9. Wow, I never new EP's were caught in the Nepean and on closer inspection I think EP is correct. First I have heard of them being caught that far up. Not looking for an exact spot but would be interesting to know the general area.
  10. Raiders, Just looking for any advice on catching poddy mullet in the Patonga - Ettalong area. I have tried Patonga Ck and Parsley Bay boat ramp (I see what look to be small mullet when I launch the boat prior to sunrise) without luck. I have also tried the cordial bottle style trap and made one of these . Bait used was both bread and bread crumbs.Any advice on locations/tides etc would be great. Also wanted to know if they are around all year? Cheers
  11. Hi Krause, I am by no means an expert but I do know that during June-August is the closed season for bass and my understanding is that this simply means you can't keep them (not that you would especially from the nepean). The reason for this is that the bass head to brackish water to spawn. Reading between the lines I would guess most bass have moved down stream but I too would live to know if there are still bass about a far up as the Nepean. As far as te spots go I have caught bass (in summer months) at a heap of spots from the weir and kms past the narrows. I have found that casting under overhanging trees that result in shaded water are the best spots. Just go and have a crack and let us know how you go.
  12. Had a flick at Berowra today. 4 hours for 1 tailor. It's the first time I have fished it and I used a combination if vibes, soft plastics and a jackall transam. There are very nice areas to fish so I'm hoping summer time is more productive as I have heard that it's very tough at winter time. Can anyone confirm that that's the case?
  13. Yeah withdrawals is right. Really enjoyed the bass fishing this year. Any fishing would be great at the moment but this weather is all wrong...
  14. Yeah I thought that may be the case. Will leave them be for the time being. Cheers guys
  15. Raiders, I have 2 questions re Bass in the closed months 1. I have read this http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/aboutus/news/all/2013/australian-bass-and-estuary-perch-closed-for-fishing and my understanding is that you can target Bass but must release them. Can someone confirm that this is correct? 2. Can you catch bass at this time of year in the Nepean and in particular the Penrith area/stretch of the Nepean River. Cheers Dean
  16. Yeah, designed and rated to either 2 x 50hp or 1 x 70hp. Thought it was weird when I purchased it but spoke to the manufacturer and apparently designed to operate effectively with either option. Great boat for its size
  17. Diesel...Na, not sure if ill make the social unfortunately (never say never though) Stevefish, for some reason these nice spots lack fish at times. I can't work out why but I find it to be the case quite regularly (excluding bass in freshwater) which is a bummer as they are very comfortable to fish.
  18. Raiders, Went for a flick last weekend in Cowan Creek. I had never fished these areas before and it was more of a fact finding trip as i had heard it is a great spot to fish. The water is cool now and the fishing wasn't great but i will definitely be back for more. We dropped the boat in at Apple Tree Bay and just went from bay to bay checking them out. The water is crystal clear and gets very shallow up the end of each bay. The bottom has nice patches of weed and nipper holes all over the place so i dare say it will be a top spot in summer for whiting. We ended up in Smiths creek which has some much deeper water and we managed 1 Amberjack and 1 flathead both caught on a Gulp grub with a1/8th Jighead on 4lb line . The footage is not as exciting as other trips out but worth a look just to check out how nice a place this is to fish. An average day fish wise but its great when we find areas that are also a pleasure to fish. Cheers, Dean
