Volitan
I always read the gamefish reports (anyone can dream) but one thing I've never understood is the abbreviations. YBT is easy enough but what is the difference between SBT and BFT? Do you get Northern bluefin tuna off Sydney (meaning Thunnus orientalis, not longtails). boattart
In 1965 there was a 282.59kg (converted to metric) Thunnus Orientalis caught at the The Peak off Sydney. It is the only one in the record books but I do recall many years ago hearing stories of pro boats fishing for kings getting blown away by massive tuna. Volitan
So therefore sbt and bft on this site both refer to Southern bluefin (Thunnus maccoyii). Is that right ? Arron Edited July 31, 2014 by Volitan

mrsswordfisherman
Good question and one that has been asked before. There is a post in Fishing Chat called Fishy Glossary with lots of the abbreviations. You can add these if you like mrsswordfisherman
