Gutters and Rips - same thing?

It might sound like a daft question but are they?

Rips normally run out to sea, gutters can run out to sea or parallel to the beach

Gutters are deeper water running out to sea or along the beach, rips are water movement which swimmers can get into trouble in as crossfire 63 said usually running out to sea.

but usually they both result in deeper water = so fishing wise, i find its good o fish both gutters and rips.

Also, the single mistake i see people make most often when fishing gutters and rips is tossing the bait dead center in the deep.. try tossing it on the edge of the gutter/rip and you should see more hookups (in my experience anyways).
