Holls
Seem to be dropping a lot of hooks, clean cut line. Changed to 20lb leader (!) and still lost a good fish that took a livie and left my hook cut off clean. There seem to be a lot of tailor around - is this typical of tailor? Does anyone use a wire trace? Still learning about fish in NSW.
NaClH2OK9
Sounds more like leather jackets. Though I haven't heard of them taking livies. I think thier mouth is too small. Where are you fishing?
Sydneyfisher12
Yep probably leather jackets they love eating live bait and then snipping your line
thefisherman6784
Yeh once a Clifton gardens we went through 6 yakkas in 5mins When we bought them up they where not coming back On the sixth yakka we bought up a little leather The yakkas were down there and just 'kicking' around but that 'kicking' was a group of leathers eating them! Guest no one
The boys are right, if you drop a sabiki down next to the live bait you'd get a jacket... Sad times when they're around!
andysinmexico
Jackets have ruined many a day live baiting for mulloway, a couple of weekends ago we had a solid band of them 15M off the bottom and they were taking everything, even the swivels were getting eaten. NaClH2OK9
I've lost count of the 1000s of meters of braid I've lost when reef bashing and they decide to chew on my line usually when I have 70m of line out and bring in 10m . I don't mind targeting the big ones for a feed but when they are in numbers it's time to move on. Stick a long shank j hook on and you can get away without wire if you want to try for them Edited November 19, 2014 by NaClH2OK9
Holls
Thanks for all your replies, but I should have mentioned, I'm fishing in Burrill Lake, south coast near Ulladulla. Maybe there are LJs in there? Open to the sea and I've caught small snapper and a blackfish in the lake.
