Guest
Ahhhhhh yes another fantastic time at Lake Glenbawn with 3 newbies (first timers) Swano, Nathan and his brother Ben. I had been given a few pointers by Jorgy and Don who fished Glenbawn a few weeks earlier and they were spot on with the new Hunter Freeway being awesome and the green coloured Smak spinnerbait that went missing in action after 40 or 50 fish. First trip away in the new Discovery 4 and I couldn't have been happier. We left together on Thursday for our 3 day fishing trip and the weather was looking good with hot days and little wind. We arrived without incident and met up with another raider, Rizzo who had been there all week and said the fishing had been tough for him and his mate. We quickly unpacked all our gear and got ready for the first arvo session and it was a pretty good one for the 4 of us with around 30 odd fish landed and Swano getting his first ever Yellowbelly (well done mate) the bass were still the same old aggressive fish I remember with them smashing our spinnerbaits with gusto and you had to hold on tight or lose your rod. The gear was pretty heavy with 10lb braid and 20lb leaders true sportsfisherman. The spinnerbaits that worked best were the Smaks in 3/8oz in dark green and the gold ones. The days went very quickly and the tallies racked up with some new PBs for Swano with an even bigger Yellowbelly and PB bass and the look on his face when he got smoked three time in a row by huge fish was priceless...Bass 3 Swano - 3 spinnerbaits The other two brothers were also scoring great fish as well and Nathan scored his very first Yellowbelly as well and also both him and Ben got PB Bass ....you two were on fire. A couple of late arvo/evenings we got onto the bass on surface lures and one even broke my jitterbug in half...tough fish and Dean landed his first ever surface bass as well and he was happy as Larry. We ate well all week and everyone pulled their weight and even cleaned their teeth...cleanliness is definitely next to godliness. The whole trip was excellent and I will definitely say (what happened at Glenbawn will stay at Glenbawn). Top trip boys and I am glad you all got some top fish and on another note Dean and I will cook our own sausages next time and you know where you can stick those crappy frankfurts. swano
AWESOME! What a great trip. I'd never done a lot of freshwater fishing before,so I did'nt really rate it. Boy did Glenbawn dam change my opinion. From the first strike on a spinnerbait on day 1,to the last fish caught in the dark on a surface lure, the whole trip was great. Just when I thought I had it all over these bass, I got smashed 3 times in a row with Stewy chuckling in the background,Told you Deano more drag. Scored some good PB's Bass- 44cm Yellowbelly- 49cm and a couple of bass on the surface. Thanks again Stewy for another fantastic trip, and a big shout out to Nathan & Ben for the great company and keeping me amused & bamboozled at the same time.(skunk?) Didnt have too many different photos to what Stew posted so I'll leave it at that. Cheers Deano
