finin Posted January 7, 2015 Share Posted January 7, 2015 Gday all, great morning to be off Sydney today, calm seas and nice water. Today was an exact repeat of yesterday. Although the nor easter was aroused a little earlier today. Again no current but the water is bang on 23 and still has a slight tinge of green to it but visibility to around 15m. Had an absolute ball on the dollies today. They were everywhere, all way under at 40-52. Hooked the first one bringing up a bait to check it, then proceeded to hold the fish 5m under the boat. Locked up the drag and put the rod into the holder. The school then joined their m8 who was happy swimming round hooked up, we then grabbed soft plastics,unweighted pillie tails and 1kg line and had some fun for 30 min. After the boredom set in of c&r countless dollies we continued on our main mission for flatties. Bait of choice today was pillies and hawkesburies. Didnt get a single bite on squid so that got barred pretty quick. New the flatties were in close so played around in 60m. Thank christ we wernt plagued by undersize ones all were over 40 and a good even mix of tigers and bluespot. Fish extremely hungry and were smashing baits. Managed a nice feed and a bycatch of a 56 mowie and a 62 samson both returned to fight another day. Nor easter decided to get stronger after 1100 so decided to give up at midday. finin Posted January 9, 2015 Author Share Posted January 9, 2015 Yes Linc we are just over 2nm out. Now epirb wise I dont carry one although I have 1. Epirb only comes for a ride if we are going to the shelf or beyond. Only thing that comes with us are flares and of course radio 27meg and vhf. By law you are required to carry one onboard if you travel more than 2 nautical miles in open waters. finin Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share Posted January 11, 2015 Yes, Paikea we always get a mixed bag mainly cause we generally as a rule dont anchor up. Literally the only time we anchor up is for kings in 1 spot and at a certain time of the year snapper at another spot, seriously the anchor goes down less than 20 times a year.
