Bow roller prototype complete

Fab1

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys couldn't find my other post but today I had an hr to spare and made this.

The roller will sit on the rail that will run inbetween the bow of my boat and the anchor well.

The aluminium rail c section is perfect for my chain links to slide under the lip strait into the anchor well without scratching deck.

The whole lot will be bolted to my deck.

Let me know please your thoughts as this is just a trial.

Cheers.

If you know where my post is please move this for me Admin.

That's very tidy! Is your rope/chain going onto a drum or free falling to the anchor well? If going to a drum then a curved roller may have helped. Either way you do some great work, keep it up...........

Dave

Thanks Dave,rope/chain will free fall into anchor well as it's only for my little tinny to make anchoring a little more pleasant. Edited by Fab1

Bow roller fitted to boat.post-20199-0-80097600-1420971878_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-25329600-1420971786_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-17799800-1420971820_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-26736600-1420971848_thumb.jpg all that remains is to buy a low profile cleat to attach inbetween rear of anchor well and windscreen as my window should just open to be able to tie off too.

Cheers.

Final bow roller made out of stainless and 6mm marine grade ally.

Drew up what I wanted on 6mm ally.post-20199-0-19340500-1421570272_thumb.jpgThen I had to fab a quick down and dirty bending jig for the folds, cut out the shape, file and shape to size.post-20199-0-68294600-1421570545_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-13957800-1421570574_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-07010500-1421570604_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-69932500-1421570628_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-63173500-1421570671_thumb.jpgThen after building the jig for two folds I had to make a roller out of a solid cube of Teflon I have.post-20199-0-01902500-1421570842_thumb.jpgroller/pin fitted befor trimming thread excess down on stainless bolts.post-20199-0-63410000-1421570960_thumb.jpgRoller complete and welded to bow with chain running through channel directly into anchor well and stainless snap added to end of chain for easy change over from reef to sand anchor. post-20199-0-57641800-1421571127_thumb.jpgpost-20199-0-22088900-1421571160_thumb.jpg

Where are you planning to install the bollard or do you have another plan for tying off the rope.

Also , when the anchor is retreived , is the plan to pull it up hard against the hull & tie it off or to reach over & lift it into the boat ??

My plan is either to find a cleat that sits low enough on the foredeck inbetween what little space I have between the rear of the anchor well and the windscreen without interfering with the opening and closing of the window or having a cleat mounted inside the boat perhaps in the dash somewhere.

I'd rather option 1 if I can get a low enough profile cleat.

My plan to retrieve the anchor is to pull it in over the roller as normal standing inside the boat until I see my last reference mark on my chain indicating I'm 1/2 a meter from the anchor then simply leaning over the bow and folding the anchor/chain over the roller and into the well with the chain sitting in the rollers channel.

The trip back and forth from the ramp I'll in clip the snap and store all components in the anchor well.

I though about making it extend further out so I could pull the anchor up hard against the hull without the flukes touching the hull, but that's a lot of weight bouncing around under way putting a lot of unnecessary strain through all components.

If you or anyone else has a better idea fire away.

Thanks.post-20199-0-60824800-1421617007_thumb.jpg

hi mate,I bought a cleat and fitted it between the back of the well and windscreen allowing sufficient room for the central window to open/close.
