Linc Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Hi All, Living in West Ryde, I normally tow the boat to roseville to launch when fishing the harbour as it's a great ramp, never too busy and a beautiful peaceful cruise out into the harbour, but it can be up to 45 mins drive. Since it'd take half a tank of fuel to boat from wharf rd to the harbour I have counted that one out but thinking of trying drummoyne ramp. Is this any good? Anything to look out for? eg 4x4 only? I've only got a 4.3M runabout so I don't need anything too deep.
Ryder Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Mate Drummoyne is fine. Good ramps. Nice jetty. Free parking. No cleaning tables though. It does get busy on weekends, a lot of novices, I've seen bingles in the carpark. A lot further to motor out than Roseville, but they hit you hard for parking. Is Tunks park still free? That's good except for the long run thru the 4kt zone from the ramp. It probably only one km but seems longer .
Busy-livin Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Mate it's the ramp I use it's a great ramp. Three lanes great pontoon and decent parking . In fact excellent if your there early!! One thing to watch .. The bloody joggers who run behind the trailer when backing down the ramp.. I've nearly cleaned up a few as they don't stop as I'm backing.. Not like a 5 m boat just jumps out at you. How dare they be so active haha
Linc Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Thanks for the insight fellas. Might give it a shot and see whether the extra boating outweighs the shorter drive. Google says 15 mins from home. Tunks is free but so small. If u get there after sunrise you are parking on the curb 1km up the road. Also a lot of novices there too

Linc Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 The fuel consumption is interesting. What motor are you running? Cheers Jim 30hp Suzuki 2stroke. Tank is only 25L. It might not take half but would use a bit. I usually go through half a tank launching at Roseville, heading into the harbour and outside the heads then back to roseville so half a tank from meadowbank to harbour could be an exaggeration- must try it one day and find out... With a spare tank on board
night_rider Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Linc have you considered Rhodes? It's got a reasonably new pontoon, enough parking(free) on the weekends and it's not too far from your place.. RWD car is fine at low tide too.. Distance wise it's not far from Drummoyne on the river and definitely not as busy...
Linc Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Sounds like something worth investigating thanks Marky
jeffb5.8 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Hi Linc I am at Dundas and i drive over to Gladesville ramp takes me about 25mins and parking can be bad if your late, Good ramp and pontoon. Is there another ramp at Kissing Point Rd (Around Putney?) that might be better shorter than the drive to gladesville and not much further down the river?
DrownNprawns Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Putney was great long time ago but I havent used it for a long time . it took me 12mins to harb bridge and about 30mins to heads I did have a 100l fuel tank on board 5.4m half cab with 115hp jono easer to boat than drive by road. So hope this helps
rippinlips Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Hi, Drummoyne is good but the section around harbour bridge can be the roughest water of the day!! Parking is also limited if you get there late. When I had a smaller boat the ramp up the back of lane cove river in the bay was handy. it is shallow, and steep but my Subaru handled my 4.5m tinnie no problem at all. On weekends I would always opt for Roseville from my place at East ryde...just use the 4k zone to rig up etc... Cheers
