nbdshroom
Yes (Yellowtail Scad) and yes. Known more commonly as yakka, they are not sought after table fare (but rather as live bait often for yellowtail kingfish) and I've been told they are decent on the palate. Matt
Apparently they make excellent Sushi, not having tried it myself though its hard to verify. I have shallow fried some skinned fillets before and they were pretty good. Cheers Windy
night_rider
I have a work colleague that takes his camper gas top stove with him and will sometimes fry them up whilst waiting for something larger to take one of his livies.. As Teflon said they can be plagued with parasites.. Great bait butterflied or live!
Scratchie
They are baitfish. If you resort to eating your bait, it's gotta be a bad day!
Witha
A favourite sushi fish, but always be wary as stated above! Definitely pop em out live instead, get an upgrade
LearningFisher112
Keep an eye out for the parasites Parasites? The little bugs that are in their mouths? Would this mean they wouldn't be eatible?
Guest no one
Not at all, although you wouldn't catch me eating one. As Scratchie said, it's a bait fish... Better to lob it out in the hope for a king than eat it
W4z
Here's an bit of info about the parasites
GreyNurse
Those little grey parasites found in the yakkas' mouths are colloquially known as "doctors". They are easily removed (most detach themselves once the fish is caught) and some fishos even use them as bait.
