fisherman666
Thought I'd show this weird bream I caught today. Funny looking jaws and a dent in the top of the head. Never seen one like it! It's survival of the fittest for a fish so I figured he managed to look after himself all these years to get to legal size. Otherwise looks healthy enough so on the plate he goes. Caught near Lower Portland on local prawn.
Guest no one
The top lip looks like a hooks ripped it off, crucian carp in the UK used to have lips like that from having hooks pulled out of them. Maybe it got hit by a prop or a bird... Looks like it's been hit hard!
Ryder
Net injury. Probably taken by a trawler. We get heaps of blackfish with the same.
Sydneyfisher12
the top injury is definitely from a trawler i catch heaps like that in the parra and also some blackfish. the nose also could of been from the trawler
sniper
It is a normal mistake thinking this damage is done to the fish by nets but this is not so. It is Notch back deformity. This deformity is believed to occur when the fish is a fingerling the cause is possibly poor water quality. The fish are still edible. This is a common fish deformity in the Hawkesbury. seasponge
I caught one with similar dent along its top near Spencer. The plus side is they're much easier to handle with no fins and built in fingergrips

fisherman666
Very funny seasponge. I'm glad I posted this as general interest. I suspected others had seen similar before. Interesting about the notch back.
