Third Time's the Charm in Cooks River

Hit the Cooks today with Stewy for our usual hunt for secret silvers and breambos. In short, we ticked off only one box in an eventful session. This is what went down.

We tried for jews first up at one of the bridges. We got a few big wacks on the lure but couldn't get a hook up. The tailor were around us and we managed to pull one of them up.

With things going quiet we moved off to another spot where we got a few more hits and one finally stuck. It had weight this thing, and with the leccy in reverse we tried to back her into the clear. The bulk of this fish was noticeable and it was continually repositioning itself. Just as the fish was about to apply the afterburners, the hook pulled... Bugger!

After a few more fruitless spots we hit the bream with our light gear to try and lift our spirits. Stewy pulled a couple of flatties to start off with but overall, we caught zero bream lol.

During this time, we hit our second snag so to speak... Whilst flicking for bream, a wandering jew decided to come to the party. It took a fancy to a Zman grub and from that moment, we were at its mercy.

Being on light gear, we fought the fish as it made its way down the river whilst we chased it on the leccy. We followed it for about 50-75 m downstream until it found a snag and sliced the leader. Bugger x2! If losing the first fish didn't hurt, then this one certainly did.

But that is the name of the game. So we soldier on, moved to a few more spots until we got one more chance, the third chance of the day. I got a good hit, and I set the hook swiftly, pinning the fish in the upper lip. This time, the hook didn't pull. Nor was the fish able to find a snag to bust us up on. After a short tussle, we finally hit our target species.

Relieved we moved to a few more spots, nailing a bunch of legal-sized flatties. They were everywhere today. With the rain expected over this week, it was good to get out for some fish and some good laughs. Content we headed back to the boat ramp.

Thanks for the comments guys. Like Stewy said, plenty of tailor around chomping on our lures. Always a downer to lose fish, let alone some jews but maybe next time. Credit goes to Stewy who always seems to find the jews and make it look easy. However, as everyone knows, you gotta put in a lot of time to chase these fish and coming up with one is always extra special. Glad you guys enjoyed the report.
