Deschanel Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Hi just wondering if anyone else has had the electric motor steering seize up on them. The last time I used it the steering was very stiff and slow but I could still turn. Someone suggested it could be a battery problem, so I changed it to no avail. Yesterday I took it out to find that the steering is completely seized. Any thoughts? Cheers TIA
stevefish Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 My watersnake carked it after 6 or 7 years, the steering failed. I could get away with stomping on the controller for a while, but not for too long. A relay clicked in the motor but it didn't turn. It never seized rather electrically failed, either way no steering. Then the motor speed stopped working.
mii11x Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I had a similar problem to you guys with a motorguide a couple of years ago, the symptons sound the same. Turned out that the bushings had cracked and cost me about $25 to fix, maybe check your bushes.
Deschanel Posted September 13, 2015 Author Posted September 13, 2015 I found my problem. Some of the gearing seized in the motor turning assembly and also chewed out some of the gears. Looks like I can only buy the whole base $165 plus shipping if they still have stock
