BrettP Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Went on a trip to nth qld last week and had a great time, (report in the next few days). I had 80lb power pro on one of my spools, and wasn't too impressed with it. What do you guys use and recommend?
Mike89 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 What were you chasing with 80lb braid? I'm used to targeting small species land based so just interested there. What aspect of the line didn't you like? I've got Fins, PP and Sunline on my spools. The heaviest braid I've got is 25lb. It's a good line, feels very strong and abrasion resistant.

I used exactly the same stuff when I went to North Queensland a few years back.
BrettP Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Seemed to break a lot. Don't know if it was a bad batch. Also when another guy hooked what I suspect was a large ray and line was peeling off, the yellow coating was all over the guides and reel. It left the line a bit freyed
fragmeister Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Where did you buy the Power Pro from? From what I gather there is fake Power Pro all over the place on the web that has damaged the reputation of the product.
boattart Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I have one reel I spooled and the material fraying does exactly the same thing but I bought that cheap off eBay since then I have a 2500mt spool I got direct from shimano and it has been perfect. I suspect my eBay batch is fake and may well be the same answer to your question.

Niffa Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I would recommend Fins 40G, its breaking strain is its average breaking strain for 85lb is 98lbs.
macman Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I've had no problem with Power Pro but you need to buy from reputable vendors, especially on Eprey. Matt
bluefin Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Ah But when will we be able to buy the Fins That is what I am waiting for!
Cargo05 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Having tried various brands of braid over the years I now use only Power Pro.
