CB Sydney
Funny, My wife and I went out Tuesday for a bit of fishing/ touring etc. We were on two light gear rods just in Vaucluse Bay- I had a small plastic and I also threw out a whole pilchard on a larger rod. Decided to leave so I started to pull in the Pilchard.....very heavy. Thought it was a snag at first but it started to come with me so I through maybe a clump of weed. Turned out it was a good size octopus. Wife freaks out and wants nothing to do with it. I bring it to the boat and just as Kate goes for the net I bring it just close enough for the end of 1 tentacle to touch the side of the boat. Then it all goes pear shaped lol The critter anchors on to the boat and crawls underneath. I pull my heart out but is is stuck firm. Long story short- 20 minutes later I strip off with a knife about to jump in and perform surgery and the octopus jumps off the boat to go deep. I pull it up and cute the line. Lesson of the day- keep the octopus away from the boat ! Good for a laugh..... Edited December 4, 2015 by CB Sydney
nbdshroom
Haha, at least it was interesting. Did you try giving the occy some slack line? They sometimes detach from objects and swim off and then you can bring it in.
RexSenior
Haha Great read! Reminds me of that movie (Cape Fear I think) where the bad fella rides under the car in wait of his prey!
cruisecraft
I was once on a mate's boat and pulled up an ocy which was lightly hooked. As I tried to dehooked it with my mate's new pair of heavy duty polished stainless steel pliers, the occy grabs the pliers and proceeds to head towards my hand which instinctively lets go of the pliers and all(Occy/pliers) drops into the water. Expensive lesson learnt that day, cut the line next time. Regards Kit

Regards Kit I feel your pain there, I once had a near new knife (just a cheapy) attempting to save most of my leader when the occy stuck on my hand and I let go of the lot! Funny thing was I'm pretty sure it was trying to eat the knife after I let go?????
cam1970
I once went to the beach as a kid in Jervis Bay. Our mates dad bought us there and we went for a swim while he went looking around the rocks. He yells out, " I can see an octopus" and asks his son to help him catch it. He tells him to leave it alone but he keeps trying. We keep swimming until he hear him yelling for help and look up to see he's head first in the rocks with his legs dangling in the air. We run over and pull him up and he's got a massive octopus wrapped around the top half of his body. The thing is biting him on the back of the head and neck and he's begging his son to stab it. We eventually killed it but it had already done a lot of damage. It was both the scariest and funniest fishing moment I've ever seen.
