locodave
Hi guys, Saw a car that I am keen on buying but it is in Tassie. Has anyone done this before? If so, what is the best way to bring it over? Thanks!
Scratchie
I haven't but if it's the one you want, fly down and fish all the way home!

savit
I noticed a lot of car with VIC plates in Tasmania in summer, so I presume ferry is quite possible.
locodave
Yes I guess ferry is the way to go, but I forgot to mention more about the rego. Would it be a matter of unregistering the car in Tassie and getting a pass to drive it to sydney? How much is a truck form Melb to Sydney roughly? Anyone know? savit
There are a few companies that are specializing in moving cars in the truck for large distances as a number of people buy the cars from Perth.
savit
Just make sure that the car was not written off in Tasmania as it may be a problem to register it in NSW.

JonD
I almost bought a boat from there not long ago, the ferry bookings were quite well booked for vehicles with trailers meaning if I bought the boat and took my 4x4 over to tow it back I would have to wait for almost 3 months. I imagine flying over and just bringing a car on the ferry would be much easier. Jon

fisholb
Took my pathfinder to hobart last xmas...cost around $180 for the car...very cheap...cost $1600 for a cabin for 4 round trip...very expensive!!! You can get a seat for free if you dont mind sitting for about 9hrs...so fly to tas then drive the car from melbourne to sydney...you must prebook the car before you go...spots very limited...and you need alot of patience because it takes about 2hrs to boat the boat... harold
It will be about $600 to truck it from Melb to Syd.
The Incredible Hull
Actually from Melb to Syd its about half that price, $300-$400. I've sent 3 cars, with a company called CEVA.
The Incredible Hull
In regards to having a different state rego, its not properly governed. I think the general rule is, you have 3 months to get it changed. But no one watches that clock, or even starts that clock... I've driven a Victorian number plate in Sydney roads for 3 years and had no problems, I even had it insured under my parents details in Melbourne. (Sydney has stupid rego and insurance premiums compared to Melb, almost double the price). And dont worry about insurance coverage, they still pay out claims interstate, I know from first hand.
