Hi fishos

Can i get some clarification, on the DPI website small poddys 20 in total under 15cm, sea bully 20 in total only 30 cm.

So what is the illegal size over or under 30cm?

Ok ive never asked an Inspector but they way Ive interpreted this rule is- you can have 20 small mullet in your possesion if they are alive and kicking in a tank or bucket . If you have dead mullet in your possesion then they need to be over 30cm.

any mullet species under 15cm must be kept live for bait and thus dead mullet of any species (eg sand, yellow eye, fantail etc) must be at least 15cm long (legal size 15cm).

except sea (aka bully when in the river) mullet which have a legal size of 30cm

that is my interpretation of the rules

So only the sea mullet have a legal size of 30cm? How do you tell the difference between mullet species?

I just had a look at the Australian museum website

I had no idea that there where that many mullet species. Next time i go mullet fishing ill have to pay more attention to what species it is.

I've been told in the past that the poddies are baby flat tail mullet
