Trout Lures

Hey raiders! I'm travelling towards the Jenolan Caves for the weekend. The house I'm staying at has a private dam that's stocked by the owners every 12 months, and I'm hoping to catch a few trout. 

Any recommendations of lures to get?

I've got a few Tassie Devils, but that's about it.

small minnows, soft plastics and vibes could all work

if you have lures for bream/flathead they should do

or the humble old garden worm either on the bottom or under a float

Thanks Houdini! I've also got a couple of Ecogear SX40s, I'll make sure to pack those as well as some small cranks.

As for baits to soak, I'll be taking worms and Powerbaits!

I do plan on taking the fly rod. I've got a couple of woolly buggers and pheasant tails that I'll bring along as well. Fully armed, just need some hardbodies.

Rick, would you suggest a specific colour? Anything, or specifically the trout patterns?

being in a dam is hard to pick..go natural colors  crayfish patterns..browns oranges..rick

ecogear sx40s work well on trout

The spotted dog pattern, brown trout pattern and perch pattern favourite models are x raps cd and j series are my favourite models

For me, I always carry a few Celta's and Crawdad's in my bag...as well as the other lures already mentioned.

not sureif the trout patterns will work as being in a dam no breeding no cannibalism....small crawdads or maybe crickhoppers thinking about it may be the go...rick

I have had most success with small No 1 &  2 brass and black.

I have Celtas too, I forgot I had them!

Royce, I got 2x CD5s, one in rainbow and one in brown. 

I also got a tub of Powerbait 1" Craws.

try a shiny metallic colour trout have a real hard time passing up shiny 

if the dam is as well stocked as stated the trout will most likely be competing for food which will lead to cannabalism so trout patterns will likely work

gold celtas also work well and so does the old halco wobblers

A tip if you are using live worms for bait. When you arrive at the dam transfer the worms from the soil they are in to local moist soil from around the dam, alloy them to settle overnight and you will have better success than using worms from foreign soil.
