How much trace for snapper fishing

hello I recently went fishing for snapper. I had 40cm trace but I didn't even get a nibble. I think it might be the location but I was just wondering do you think it could be not enough trace? Thanks from flattefisher .

depends on what rig you are using..i fish floating baits in burley and run 15lb straight to the hook  if using dropper rig you can go from25cm to 1.2mtr...lots of variables....don't fish too heavy is my best advice...rick

I am using a running sinker down to a swivel then a hook

Try a longer, lighter leader next time that you go. Of course the one factor which you don't know from your experience is "were there any fish there, at the time?" Never be afraid to change something if it's not working...you have nothing to lose. Good luck BN
