rods

There are usually sold on eBay by a guy from Perth. Just read the current eBay feedback. In the past people were complaining that they are not actually Japanese quality rods and they break easily. Lifetime warranty was applicable only when you buy atfull price, not an auction.  There is/was also Hamachi rod 'manufacturer ' website that was registered to the same ebay guy from Perth.  There were a also few old discussions onAU fishing forums where this guy tried to explain why they still can be considered Japanese origin.

Second this

also read on various forums that they are rebranded chinese rods while an aussie seller is marketing them with a japanese website

quality wise im not too sure but for the price going on ebay. I think they are expensive with a japanese marketing gimmick

Hi Rick,

As a long time owner of many Hamachi rods and a FishingAndBoatingDeals customer, I thought it would be good to comment, maybe too late for your purchase?

I'm  in Florida and always had the best of experiences with FishingAndBoatingDeals, I've dealt with them for over ten years and as a regular know the guys and the history well.

All My Hamachi rods except one came from FishingAndBoatingDeals (a Zenku I bought from a dealer locally) Its a niche product so the tackle shops capable of carrying seem to be limited but it does have a few outlets I know of, a couple here in the US, some in the Philippines and Greece, I'm sure there are more. I understand they only build around twenty or thirty thousand rods a year,  small compared to  Shimano or Daiwa but impressive for high end rods

off the bat, I'm a diehard Hamachi fan; they won me over years ago

Hamachi started in the 1990's as a Japanese domestic market offering originally under a different brand.

FishingAndBoatingDeals.com was started around 2005 as an eBay store Petermont80 and a website for part-time work for Peter's sons as they went through college and university, it was never intended to be the size business it is today, it now has warehouses in Australia, US and EU

They were the first business to sell Hamachi rods outside Japan, when the GFC hit here in 2007, they bought up high end distress stock from  our wholesalers and retailers , Stellas, Tiagras , internationals etc. (shops were going bust here big time) and selling them in Australia and elsewhere at well below retail,  I gather this didn't win them too many friends in the tackle industry and generated the couple of old posts about the origin of gear they sold and so forth, but did make a lot of happy customers (myself included).

The private equity firm Peter is a director of then took a stake (controlling I think) in Hamachi to expand it overseas and build higher-end products, about 6 or 7 years ago. Plenty of companies are foreign owned, take Australian Kraft vegemite, was US owned by Mondelez International, as far as I know, it didn't change the taste of the product or where its made?

The products, Hamachi build today, especially the XOS GT'n'Doggie range are sweet, I have a couple of early ones, maybe 10 years old they very nice on par with most good rods and fought many battles, but the 3 piece popper rods and jig sticks they build now in the Doggie range are works of art that perform incredibly well.

From what I know Hamachi manufacture in a number of countries, with the blanks rolled in Japan and on the lower cost rods finished elsewhere (S.Korea, China, Malaysia). The  XOS GT'n'Doggie Invite series is totally built in Japan but will set you back $3800USD plus

Many Japanese manufacturers build overseas,  take Fuji Guides and reel seats, most people still believe Fuji products are all made in Japan, when they are nearly all entirely made in Fuji's factory in Qingdao China, ( nothing wrong with many products from China,  remember what we all thought of Japanese and Korean products in the 1970's) http://www.tackletradeworld.com/rd-at-the-heart-of-fujis-global-success/ (scroll down to who is Fuji)

They are not rebranded rods,  the rods I have are completely different to anything else on the market, Hamachi is the only company currently manufacturing a 3 piece popper rated to PE12 (130lb) and a butt joint 7'6 rated to PE15 I live  popper fishing and own both these rods and never seen anything even similar, weight dimensions look or feel.

BTW the 8'2 80-130lb is one of the best rods I have ever fished with for popping, yet to try the PE15 Brute Slayer both light as a feather

FishingAndBoatingDeals uses eBay auctions as advertising and to clear stock that's been replaced with newer models and has minor scuffs or similar from shipping, its only 1 year rather than lifetime warranty, a good deal at half price,  I have recommended this to a few friends that have bought this way, its helped them get a high-end rod that they could not otherwise afford.

For the two ebay sites, FishingAndBoatingDeals have, feedback is 100%, and the other is 99.9%, the only negative comment was an item delayed in customs, nothing to do with Hamachi   -

http://stores.ebay.com.au/fishingandboatingdealsglobalstore/

http://stores.ebay.com.au/fishing-and-boating-deals?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

From what I can see the two stores have over 5500 customers that have left very good feedback and only one that has commented negatively about Hamachi, I'm not sure how many local tackle shops would run at over 99% customer satisfaction

My guess is the couple of negative posts on the net are more than likely competitors/key board warriors/ maybe a tackle store that held a grudge from them being undercut with the Stella's, I dont know, but I doubt that they actually own one and in some cases even seen one, there's a thread on Alantani.com here in the US, (also a few good threads on them as well)  numerous things don't match up with what the guy claimed for a start FishingAndBoatingDeals only use Express air freight to the US my rods have all been delivered in less than 4 days. If you read further down some longtime forum members that own Hamachi rods jumped in and straightened it out

For what its worth, It's one of your countrymen folks that's taken Hamachi from a small JDM product to where it builds some of the best rods you can buy with a niche group of diehard customers and fans across the globe, sure it's not a household brand, but specialist products rarely are

All the hardcore guys I know that own a Hamachi can't get enough of them,  guess it's like all products, there will always be diehard fans of the product or its competitors, something like your Holden verse Ford debate,

man I've read some funny posts on those debates over the years

If you decide to get one or two or many like myself you won't regret it

Tight lines

Your welcome,

have travelled down under on a few fishing trips over the years,

I dream of fishing there more often, reading the Aussie fishing forums and chatting to Dave and the guys at FishingAndBoatingDeals helps fill in the often very long gaps

50 and 80lb bent butt short stroker of the 80's Dennis Braid's creation for Socal long-range tuna, sabre calstar GUSA all wicked rods in their day.

The Sabre eglass 30 to 100lb I think, a short blank about 5 or 5'6 awful color baby crap mustard but had one custom built, metallic purple and silver thread, the big ole chunky aluminium reel seat from Stuart Ind. in Florida, the long duralon foregrip.

God knows what i was thinking picking that color pattern, wish I still had it, great taper, fast action man it caught tuna

Thanks for the reply
