Blackfish bait

Hi guys just wondering if I can use cabbage in estuary to catch blackfish or does it have to be string weeds?

i usually fish them off the rocks with cabbage but wanted to try in estuary

At times they will eat any weed, including cabbage, but at other times they are very fussy, caught plenty on cabbage in Lake Illawarra and Minnamurra.

Cabbage works well in swansea channel   it all depends where you intend to fish

I was thinking of trying at narrabeen lake in Sydney

It works more frequently than you would think in the estuary, you should be able to gather string weed and cabbage at Turrimetta which is only just around the corner from the front of the lake. I've caught plenty of fish on cabbage well up the Parramatta River, and other places when string weed has been scarce.

Dont be frightened to use pink nippers as well. Most of my better blackfish over the years have come on pink and green nippers. The added bonus' to those are the bream, flathead, trevally etc

The downside is the fortesques and toads lol

Hi eastwood1980 if you're going to fish the 'drop-over' near the caravan park you'll get them on cabbage as the run in (when you fish there) brings cabbage in from outside. As Macman said cabbage is fine inside. If no long weed at Turrimetta, Mona Vale pool usually has great weed as long as the council hasn't just been there to poison it off for swimmers safety

I use cabbage in Tuggerah lakes and it works fine.
