thaichilli
Hi Raiders, Picked up this flathead with 'weird' growth or parasite on fins. Is it safe to eat? Well not the fins but the fillets 😁 Cheers
Yowie
They have these from time to time. Still alive and kicking after many years of eating fish. If you look closely, a number of fish species have various parasites.
PaddyT
Listened to an interesting podcast a while back-Steve Rinella from Meateater had a parisitologist on his show, mainly talking about animal parasites but a fair bit about fish-there are a couple of creatures that live in fish that can infect humans after consumption-but not if the fish is cooked or frozen-the other bit that he said was that the parasites that did transfer to humans are essentially harmless -he was talking about ocean fish. Jiggy
Yes I've heard the same thing. I believe that if you want to eat fish raw freeze it first; kills any parasites and you can slice it very thin if it's still a little frozen when cutting.
