Butterworth 0.1 Rod

Recommended Posts

Hi Raiders,

I picked up a vintage Butterworth beach rod when I was up the coast. I stripped the guides and removed the reel seat hoping to get a model number all I found was 0.1 on the blank and the rear wooden grip. It doesn’t match any models on the Butterworth catalogue.  It’s pretty stiff I think it could be an 8 or 9144, any thoughts?

It’s 12ft, butt is 28mm and the tip is 3.5mm. The walls of the blank are close to 1.5mm

Compared to my Pacific Composites and Snyder Mag Surf both 7 wrap the action is faster and it’s heavier. I don’t have any other to compare it to.
Here are model charts from  Butterworth, it’s not on there, 66F96C6F-6FB4-4DCF-92B7-8A415E7367D3.thumb.png.1436dd5ab4c782ab3c5c97531cfb481b.png01AAAFD4-96B9-4322-BFFF-54A534C8F7FA.thumb.png.4f99bdf064b46303b013ffce8f5976e2.pngbut it does have the original Butterworth decal.

I spoke to my rod builder, he suggested the SU series
I’ve taken out the sand spike and put the blank on the best scales I have, it comes up around 440g depending how I place it. Calling it SU7144FT.
The butt dimension is spot on, the tip is about 1/3 of a mm thicker, the blank is overall 1 cm longer than 366. Slight variations71C87C6E-319F-4999-BB7E-430E8E77A040.thumb.jpeg.af9b34898a2f9b664f451d4addd4518d.jpeg
