smashem
62cm, caught in 20+ metres, off Moreton Island in QLD, Paternoster rig. Don't think it is a tarwhine as it would be maxed out for the species. Bronzy colour, slightly darker bars on top section of back, light splotches elsewhere per pic... 0 Blackfish
It's a Painted Sweetlip. (Diagramma pictum) They go by a few common names. They change from a colourful Juvenile to that dull colour. There has been recorded juveniles in Sydney as well as more mature ones.
0 noelm
Looks like a Blubber Lip Morwong, or "mother in law fish" not known for its eating qualities, very common catch around that area. Not to be confused with the "Rubber Lip" or Blue Morwong we get further south, completely different species. 0 noelm
Lots of common names, Slatey Bream, Blubber Lip, plus others, caught dozens of them, never eaten one, because my mate said they are rubbish, but, next time I will try one, just to see.
