Rebel
Hi All. No, I am not getting into a War about Mono V Braid. We have done that before. I went to my local Fishing Superstore to buy some Mono Line. I couldn't believe the new range of Mono. I asked the sales guy who has been there for years, what is happening ? In the last six months there has been a surge in sales for Mono. It has been young people getting into fishing & cannot afford Braid. He also added some people have gone off Braid because of trying to tie knots & other problems & prices. He also added these preople are your weekend fishing learners that all they do is want to go fishing & have a good time. I found this very interesting. Cheers. frankS
Since I rarely go outside the heads as I get older I find I am using mono more these days being shallower water. I still like braid for anything deeper than about 30 metres and my overheads are all loaded with braid, but I have been putting mono back on my light spinning reels. I use Maxima green. have done for as long as I can remember, have used other brands but always prefer my Maxima. Green Hornet
I don’t fish deep water either and when using bait I’ll always use mono. One place I chase blackfish where an extra long drift is required I’ll use braid as it’s low stretch makes it easier to set the hook. For any lure fishing though, it’s braid every day.
lastworm
Started using braid 20 years ago, never looked back, bait and/or lure. The one time I’ll still use mono is off the beach, no need for braid and generally windy conditions and wash means too many tangles with braid. There are way more cheap braid options these days than back in the day, so doubt expense is the issue. I’d say the fact that your superstore tackleshop has more beginner customers just means less people have been exposed to braid and it’s benefits. It’d be different if you went into a local specialist tackle store I’m sure. Edited November 6, 2022 by lastworm
