sergau55
Now that summer is well underway, I have been heading out to my local surf beaches in the eastern suburbs targeting beach worms for bait and then bream / whiting. I find that most fishing has to be done post 730/8pm on weeknights due to the crowds but I hardly ever see any other fishos around other than in maroubra. lately I’ve getting a lot of stingrays 6 or 7 hookups in the space of an hour. Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid them? other than at maroubra has anyone had much luck with getting beach worms at the other beaches ?
XD351
I always found dead low tide was worse for rays , if you are anchoring your bait to the bottom it gives them time to find it so my bait is always moving - I adjust the sinker weight to slow it down if there is a bit of a rip but never so heavy it anchors it in one spot - the exception would be fishing for mulloway , but things like rays and sharks are always par for the course with that . I heard somewhere that Wanda beach is good for worms , I use pipis as they are easier on my back , sometimes pillies or I fish lures .
noelm
Late afternoon is Stingray time on any beach (in my experience) and not ideal Whiting time either, but, if that’s the only time you can go, then so be it. The advice above is spot on, baits with big sinkers fixed to the bottom is a Stingrays delight, they just “land” on the bait and suck it straight down.
