Fishing a senko for Murray cod

Recommended Posts

Hi raiders, I am wondering if anyone has ever fished a senko for Cod in dams? I have had successes with bass and EP’s on smaller senkos however I have found some 7-8” senkos that I think could work for cod. I am wondering this as I could see a cod not eating to eat a fast moving flashy lure and instead just wanting to eat a worm. Do you think if it is worth a crack or should I just stick to using “normal” lures?

I agree with Dave - cod are generally tough to catch in dams but senkos may be an option in a flowing river where you can target specific areas that cod are likely to sit in ambush however if it was me, I'd still be throwing something with more flash and action as I suspect a lot of cod hits are a reaction bite when fishing lures.

G’day Nepot,

Interesting topic, I fished wacky rigged senko’s for the first time in Hawaii with a guide in a freshwater river/lagoon for small mouth bass. They worked when nothing else seemed to. I got hold of some and tried in Australia for a few bass and bream successfully but didn’t persist. It seemed they fished well casting close to steep banks with a decent drop but I felt they needed to be fished slower and it was harder to cover much ground. Given the success in Hawaii when nothing else worked I’ve been keen to give them another crack.

They should work for cod, I think you just have to find the right scenario.

Keen to hear how you have fished them for bass and EP’s?

Hi lizard boy

For bass and perch and I rigged some homemade 3" senkos on 1/0 weedless hook and fished they pretty much anywhere.
