  1. Nice salmon there mate. you seem to be getting a few of those from time to time. Always like your close up's of the fish. Might see you there over the weekend.
  2. Ray, goodonyamate. Nice taylor. Still haven't caught one myself but will head out thisarvo to try my luck. I'll be using salted bonito myself as I haven't caught any squid lately. Cheers Pete
  3. Hi Raiders, I'm heading to Elizabeth beach for the Queens birthday long weekend to do a bit of fishing and just plain relax. I've never been there before so if anyone could let me know what sort of fish I can target there and where to target fish that would be great. I know that there is whiting off the beach but will they be around early June? There is a lake there also. Is this any good for fishing near elizabeth beach and Booti Booti. Are there many crabs in the lake, I may just take a few traps, if they are allowed there. (not sure) I have access to a little runabout boat for the lake, but it is only small so probbably won't be taking it into the ocean. Maybe just do a little beach/rock fishing. Any help or advice would be great. Also taking my wife and baby son. Are there any interesting sights we should see whilst in the area. Thanks in advance. Raiders helping raiders etc... Cheers Peter
  4. Ray, the lagoon looks nice. I know exactly where you took that picture. Near the wooden table and chairs right? Tried fishing there a few time a few months ago and nothing. Great pic's though. Can't wait till they open the lagoon up to the sea. Where is the marker on the bridge up to and at what mark do they open it up. I predict that that's when I'll get my first jewie. Peter
  5. Where do you find the swap n sell? Peter
  6. Good looking water where you caught the squid. It's been a little quiet for squid for me lately
  7. Wow, what a session. Would have loved to have been there with you guys..
  8. Hi, I'm keen if a spot open's up. Peter 0448 851 346 From Avoca Beach.
  9. Hi Raiders, I just moved to the Central Coast from Victoria late last year for work and don't know many people up here or in Sydney yet. Not any fishos anyway. I have only been fishing since I moved up here and have met some fantastic raiders while out and about fishing. I would like someone to take me out with them on their boat looking to catch dollies or tuna. I will bring my own gear and as always am prepared to split costs etc. I live in Avoca Beach. Pm me if interested in helping out a fellow raider. Cheers Peter
  10. They were. I sushimi'd a couple and the meat was that soft it virtually melted in my mouth. The rest is for bait.
  11. Ray, Thats an awsome shot of the squid. Nice work on the flatty's too. Nice way to spend the day. Cheers
  12. Sounds great. Like something I saw on Iron Chef (the Japanese series) Like a carpaccio. Will give this a try. Bon Apatite!
  13. Hi, Always after, sometimes during, rarely before.... Hope this helps Cheers Hi, Always after, sometimes during, rarely before.... Hope this helps Cheers
  14. Hey Raiders, Was up this morning before the sun and headed to Avoca to try my luck. Arrived just on day break and decided to do a little bottom bashing. One and a half hours goes by and not even a bite. Moved aroud the rocks a bit further and decided to spin some metal lures for a bit. Had an absolute cracker of an hour. Lost 2 slugs caught 5 bonito around 45 to 55cm mark. In the hour I was there spinning, at least 60 of these fish were caught. I hooked another and it took me straight under a rock ledge. Pop, there goes my last lure. Headed off home and booted up the computed and Ray R PM'd me saying he was heading down on a squid hunt. Packed a few lures and jigs, then back to the rocks for round two. I met up with Ray R and Hodgey1 and tried squidding for an hour or so with no luck. Ray R landed a beaut. ( Bit of jew bait I believe.) Loaded a rod with some squid and within half an hour landed a nice fat Brim for tea. Heres some pictures I took this morning. Happy fishing. Cheers Peter Some other pics
  15. Id love to go. Actually spoke to Ross last week and he's waiting to get me on a share charter or something. This sounds perfect for me..
  16. Hi Raiders, Headed to Avoca on the run in tide around 2.30pm and was rapt that I'd finished work early to wet a line. About half an hour after I had set up, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, grab n run. (i'd never seen line peel off a reel that fast) I tried to strike but the hooks must have pulled as my bait was still intact on retrieval. 2 hours later and 2 'Non Locals' slippin over on the slippery rock surface (and a silent chuckle )not much had been happening. Local Ray R rears his head, keen on catching a squid or 2 and it wasn't long before we're shooting the breeze, watching and runnin on occasion from the rising swell. Bout half an hour before dark Ray R lands a nice little trevally (which are also known as blurters, cause of the sound they make when trying to tell us to put them back into the drink. Blurrrrrt, blurrrrrt.) I'm still wondering weather or not these little buggers like squid as Ray R was using stripey tuna for bait. Guess it wasn't quite my day. I think I'll use a second dropper on my peternoster rig in future and get two different baits out there to give the buggers some choice. Cause today they had a choice but it defenately wasn't the one which I had backed. Anyway, Ray R caught a smaller version of the pictured model bout 5 mis later, then we decided to pack it in for the evening. Ray R (2), Mercer007 (0). Will keep you all posted on my progress @ Avoca as it is now my local haunt. Till then, Peter
  17. Raiders, Headed to Avoca rocks today to hit the run in tide for a bottom bash. Got down there bout 2.30pm this arvo and it was quiet as it has been for the past 4-5 days. Had a large grab and run (never seen line peel of a spool so fast before) but once I tried to strike, must have pulled the hook cause my bait was still intact once I retreived the rig. 2 hours later, and 2 (non local) fisherman taking a spill on the slippery rock ledge, with a silent chuckle local Ray R rears his head to wet a line in this beaut location. Gee I love the Central Coast. Not much happens for another hour, then at about 5.30 ray hooks up a nice Trevally. (He calles them Blurters, cause of the sound they make. Blurrrt, blurrrt) I'd never heard a fish try to talk before. He caught it on stripey tuna bait, using a paternoster rig. I was failing with squid.
  18. How can I get photo's from a PM onto a fishing report? Went out with a mate and he PM'd me the photos but I cant drag them across? Cheers Peter
  19. Raiders, Headed to Avoca Friday arvo to wet a line and bumped into local, Ray R. By this stage I had lost about $15 bucks worth of tackle and was getting rather frustrated. I pulled in a small cod but nothing for the table. Got to talking with Ray and after a few tips on a paternoster rig with running sinker, and my casting technique was hoiking it out there past the rocky bottom to the sandy bottom. Minutes later Ray's rod bows and a small ray (not the human variety) was hooked and kindly released. I must say that it's great to finally meet Ray. What a top bloke. Thanks for the pointers mate. Cheers Peter
  20. Well done Ray, Been wanting to fish Avoca all week but have had to work late. Nice fish though, sounds like a ripper session. Probably head to the rocks Friday arvo to wet a line. Keep up the top posts mate, your pics are great. Peter
  21. Hi, I'm new to the coast and wouldn't mind helping you out. I live in Avoca Beach and am keen to learn a few tricks off some coast fisho's. Bad luck about the finger. I know wat that's like. PM me if you want. I'm availabe on weekends mostly. Cheers Peter
  22. Hi Owen, I'm new to the coast, live in avoca, and am keen for a fish when not at work. I don't have a boat yet but i do a bit of beach and rock fishing with not much sucess as i've only been fishin for about 6 months. Lokkin for someone to show me a trick or two. Have my own gear etc, but not a lot of experience. I'm always prepared to share costs, bait etc . I'll go fishing at any ungodly hour, and usually by myself as I don't know many people up here yet. Nice part of the world though. Cheers Peter
  23. Hi Ray, Good lokkin fish. I live in Avoca and have just taken up fishing in the last 6 months. I've been a little upset with the sea conditions as things have been a tad rough. Any tips on where and when, what types of baits and rigs etc. I could use to better my chances of fishing this lovely spot. If you wanted you could give me a call on 0448851346. Peter's my name by the way. Cheers
